WEDGEWOOD WOODLAND

Sometimes your space changes in unwanted ways. In this case, a tall home went up next door and the homeowners were anxious to regain privacy / screening / separation. What once felt like a hidden woodland oasis now had a looming building approximately 10′ from their front door.

This led to the desire to change the front entry experience. They no longer wanted to use the narrow side (what was the main entry). They wanted to switch it to the front.

We cut out the existing concrete path leading to the side, added a new wider concrete path leading to the new front deck and switched the side (secondary path) to pavers. Steel planters and trellises were added for elevated planting and instant screening.

The plants had to be hardworking right off the bat. Strategic placement was the primary concern. We considered views from the street, views while walking down the path to the front door, views from the front door looking to the side… They needed instant height!  There are three giant Western Red cedars in the front that take up prominent positions. Around the cedars we added a heavy dose of evergreens that bloom for year-round screening and seasonal color. Ferns, grasses, perennials and groundcovers add texture, color and lush feeling.

We succeeded in not only helping them regain their privacy but added big-time curb appeal appropriate for the modern woodland setting.
